Kelcy Warren, the executive chairman of Energy Transfer, has become a towering figure in the American energy
landscape. His journey from modest beginnings to helming one of the largest
energy infrastructure companies in the world is nothing short of remarkable.

Warren co-founded Energy Transfer Partners in 1996 alongside Ray Davis. Initially focused on
intrastate natural gas pipelines, the company has experienced exponential
growth under Warren’s leadership. Today, Energy Transfer operates nearly
125,000 miles of pipeline, transporting about 30 percent of the United States’ natural gas and crude oil.

In 2004, Kelcy Warren made a strategic move by acquiring the midstream assets of TXU Fuel
Co. This acquisition marked the company’s entry into the Barnett Shale, an
action that significantly boosted its profile. The purchase of Sunoco in 2012
further diversified Energy Transfer’s hydrocarbon streams, extending its reach into the Marcellus Shale.

Warren’s management style is marked by decisive and swift actions. For example, the 2011
acquisition of Louis Dreyfus Highbridge Energy was approved during an emergency
board meeting called on a Friday night. This audacious approach has been
instrumental in driving the company’s rapid growth.

Despite the controversies surrounding the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline,
Warren remained steadfast. His commitment to seeing projects through,
regardless of public sentiment, highlights his unwavering focus on long-term objectives.

Kelcy Warren has also been a significant philanthropic contributor.
His $10 million donation led to the establishment of Klyde Warren Park in
Dallas, a green space named after his son. In 2019, he doubled his support with
an additional $20 million gift.

Kelcy Warren’s influence extends beyond the energy sector. His ability to navigate complex
market dynamics while fostering a culture of aggressive growth has solidified
his reputation as a formidable leader in the industry.
